Without a doubt, Roux is the dog of my lifetime. His abilities
are surpassed by his temperament and personality. I will never
see another one like him.
About Bayou Magic Retrievers
My experience with hunt tests was very limited; field trials -
none. Roux very quickly proved to be superior in
intelligence and marking abilities than all other dogs I've had
the pleasure of owning during the past 30 years. His
abilities soon made me curious about field trials. After
winning a couple of derby seconds and jamming several times, he
won a qualifying just after aging out of derby. I decided
to get a MH title on him if possible, then concentrate primarily
on field trials. He passed 6 straight master tests and
received his MH at 30 months old. Later that year, still
as a 2 year old, he won a 3rd in the Open and a 4th in the Am.
He has since won an Amateur and placed in several more Ams and
Opens.
We bought Roux sight unseen from Terri Veach in Jan 2004. I wanted a well-bred pup to run a
few hunt tests and serve as my gun dog. We explained to
Terri the temperament that I wanted and asked that she use her
best judgment, reach into the box, and send a male to us. Roux
arrived in Oklahoma at nine weeks old while I was away on
business. Debbie picked him up at the airport, and told me
the next day, "There is something special about this one." She
was right!
A special thanks to my good friend and partner Tim West. Tim
became a co-owner with me in 2008 and handled Roux to an Am win
and a couple of other placements. Most of the time Roux
lives and trains with Debbie and me in Ada, OK, but occasionally
he visits Uncle Tim for some different looks on Tim's training
grounds.
The real thanks goes to Debbie for putting up with me and
throwing a lot of nasty stinky birds for Roux. I guess
that's real love.
