Bayou Magic Retriever Training Program

Bayou Magic Retrievers offers limited field trial training.  We stress the basics and transition work to give your dog every chance to succeed in advanced work.   

Limited Spaces Available.  We currently accept no more than 8 dogs to ensure that all dogs get the time and attention needed to reach their potential.  Space is available on a first come first served basis.  (We are currently FULL, but please call to be put on a waiting list.)  I intend to retire soon and go pro full time.  Exact time will depend on several factors, but we are hoping for 2008.   

Minimum Training Term.  Dogs are accepted on a 4 month minimum training term.  During the initial 4 month period we will provide each client with an honest evaluation of their dog(s).   

Field Trial Program.  We stress basics and transition work with young, talented dogs.  In doing so, our focus is not on winning derby points, but giving your dog the foundation and skills to advance to the extremely competitive all-age field trial stakes.  Our goal is to teach your dog while allowing him to maintain a positive attitude.  We normally accept pups as young as 6 months of age. 

Field Trial Schedule.  We run roughly 6-7 trials in the spring and 6-7 trials in the fall.  Most are located in the Texas/Oklahoma/South Kansas circuit.  The exception is the Shreveport-Bossier Retriever Club field trial held in North Louisiana.   This will change when we go full time.

Training Rates and Expenses 

Training fee is $600 per month and  includes a premium food (Eukanuba) and boarding.   Owners with multiple dogs receive a discount.
Flyers (ducks and pheasants): 4 total per month included, additional are $12 ea.
Heartworm preventative: Included
Flee and tick treatment: Included
Trip to veterinarian: $10 plus actual expenses.
Airport trip: $100 (200 mile round trip)

Field Trial Fees

Entry Fees - Actual cost of entry, normally $60 - $85 per stake per dog.  Owners can enter the dogs if they prefer.

Field Trial Trip Expenses – Trip expenses in OK, TX, KS, and LA will not exceed $75 per client.   

Field Trial Handling Fees - $70 per dog.

Other Training Programs - None!  Retrievers are all we do.
